Solar Eclipse

Today was a major day in portents and Babylonian numbers – a total eclipse of the sun lasting for six minutes.  Unfortunately, I think I was in the wrong geographic locale to witness the full glory of the event.  At the least, overcast clouds did their best to block my view.  I wasn’t able to capture the iconic sickle image of darkness and light, but I did get some lovely images of the sun.

It was fun to see other people looking up at the sun through their viewers.  The majority of people, however, just ran around not caring.  I remember in sixth grade we made special toilet paper tube viewers.  Not having that, I simply used the camera to capture glimpses.  It was nice to be part of an exciting natural event.

In sadness though, I had this conversation online with a friend after the event:

friend: hey bry how have you been

me: good good. I just watched the eclipse.

friend: what is that, the twilight book?

Just goofy…

Feeling that I should catch up on some news, I went to Cnn.com.  No reason why that news source, it just makes the rounds sometimes.  Guess what greeted me?  This:

That is, hands down, the goofiest picture ever.  The headline was Word Leaders: We can defeat this crisis.  This is a picture from the G-20 Summit on the economic crisis – some serious business.

But back to the picture – Are they frat boys?  Did someone do a handstand while taking the picture – thus evoking the president’s thumbs up?  Did someone tell a really great joke beforehand?  Why are they all looking at different things?

Seriously, you could throw in Buddy Christ and this thing would be complete:

I snapped this picture in LKF [the ex-pat party/bar area].  Just random but I liked the way it turned out.

Tai Po Open Markets

I’ve written about Tai Po’s open markets and posted pictures before.  This is a practice that I really wish we had more of in America.  We have Farmer’s Markets and we have some seasonal fairs, but they just don’t rival the options for freshness in Asia.  On the other hand, it is comfortating knowing that your meat wasn’t hovered over by a dude smoking and sweating.  Though, one could be argued this perfect blend of sweat and ash affords a delicious flavour found no where else in the world.

Cityscapes…

Hong Kong, forever bustling and ever cramped, always catches me with it’s skyline.  I think it is so rare that I look up and really catch the impressiveness of the buildings in this city – instead often lost in the labrinth of people and shopping.  The city at night can be simply beautiful as it twinkles like a starry sky with vibrant signs and flashing linings on buildings.  Anway, I’m delivering some more pics of this awesome city.   These were all taken down in Central.
